Why is walking so challenging?
Walking is tougher than we think. Here’s what makes the upright posture so challenging!

1. Weight
When we put all weight on two feet, it creates a strong load on the lower back, hips, and pelvic floor.

2. Extension
The upright body is in full extension. This limits the movements of the spine and makes the body stiff.

3. Balance
Staying in balance on two feet is challenging. If the body is stiff and rigid it becomes even harder.

4. Lifestyle
An inactive lifestyle with restricted movement patterns further weakens our walking skills.

Decline or neglect?
When our gait becomes unsteady, we often see it as a natural decline, a normal part of the aging process. However, it’s more likely a sign of neglect. We’re not taking proper care of the body. It cries out for our attention!


The mental trap
Most of us take our walking skills for granted. Once learned, never forgotten! But that’s a mental trap. The truth of the matter is that we continuously need to work with our movement patterns. Otherwise, we’ll lose them.


Stuck in old habitsÂ
Another common mistake is to think that it’s enough to go for a stroll now and then. While walking is always good, it doesn’t renew our habits. Most of us are stuck in old movement patterns that only get tighter and more limited over time.


What is Somatic Walking?
Somatic Walking is a new way of restoring your walking skills! Simultaneously, it’s a walk-through your whole body. It includes toe, foot, ankle, knee and hip care. It works with your breathing, core and pelvic floor. It also includes your upper body – spine, shoulders, neck and arms. Somatic Walking releases tension, hydrates fascia and strengthens your muscles from toe to top. It’s a whole body care!Â

In Somatic Walking we stick to the magical mantra “Feel, learn and strengthen”. Here’s how it works!
Feel your body
To improve our walking, we need to feel what’s going on in the body. We need to land first! So we always start by releasing tension and strengthening the body-mind connection.Â


Understand your body
The next step is to understand the body. We want to know how it works. And also why it is designed the way it is. For this, we use a combination of experiential and evolutionary anatomy.

Walk with confidence
Now, when we’ve put the pieces together, the body starts to move as one body again. We walk with energy, enthusiasm and confidence. This also spills over into our mind and increases our self-confidence.Â
It’s pure pleasure!
With a free body and a free mind, we can enjoy movement in a new way. The body feels whole. We can love the way we move, and move the way we love. Walking becomes our new pleasure!
